Hi!

I’m Alice Sutton, the happy owner of the Bamboo Apartments on Holmes Beach, Anna Maria Island, Florida.

Our family has owned this property since 1971. My grandparents built the apartments as their retirement home, and my parents and grandparents bought the Gulf front property a few years afterwards.

Here are my grandparents, Carmen and Avelino Torres in front of the sign in 1971. We were total hot stuff back then — we had COLOR TV and AC! My mom picked the name Bamboo Apartments. I am not sure why.

Driving Directions from Tampa:

*From the Tampa Airport: Take I-275 South, through St. Petersburg, and cross the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Bear right onto US 19 (exit #5, old exit #2), to Bradenton/Palmetto. Cross Green Bridge on Business 41, head West on SR 64 Manatee Avenue to beaches for approximately 11 miles until you come to the Manatee County Beach — you can go no further! Turn left (south) on Gulf Drive; the Bamboo Apartments are one block south on your right.

Total travel time is about 75 minutes.
